**Vengefulpaw** It was a weekend morning and the grounds on the north west of Shadowclan were bathed in a dawn glow of sunlight. Along the path which lead up through a cave and continued towards the river travelled Vengefulpaw. Jogging up the roots, she looked out onto the distant stretch of green that was the random clearing and noticed it was vacant and unsurprisingly so. This moon seemed to have a different atmosphere about it – not just for the 11 or 12 moon olds who were busy with getting their last days of training in but for the whole clan. There was still a strong sense of absence that polluted the area ever since the end of the last move, suffocating almost everyone – although no one really admitted it out loud. All sense of spirit had seemed to vanish from Shadowclan, making everyone feel as empty as the Starclanners that roamed the Medicine and leaders cats dreams. The meals in the camp were not accompanied by the sound of raucous conversation but an odd, tense formality – people still talked but it was wary, people still laughed but only if another person did first. Shadowclan as it were was no more.
Rounding the corner of the big pine tree upon reaching the landing, Vengefulpaw ducked cautiously as an eagle-owl flew overhead before making her way over to her own bird. Like she did most mornings she had free, Vengefulpaw had taken the time to visit her owl little baby owl that fell out of a tree, not to hunt for any prey but just to maintain its wellbeing and as odd as it seemed – see how it was doing. The owl was small and could easily fit into both paws, upon keeping the owl her mother had warned her it would be useful to kill anything big and important but Vengefulpaw quite stubbornly refused to pass up the chance of keeping him. She spotted it easily, perched upon one of the stone ledges, its light brown feathers looking different from the last time she had seen the; “C’mere little bird!” She called fondly, her body prepped for its landing next to her as the little owl swooped over to her. Nosing behind his ears, she examined his feathers further and frowned. A dark red stain blemished his russet feathers and with further inspection, a small wound was visible. Lowering her nose away and allowing the bird to hop onto the tree branch they stood beside, Vengefulpaw muttered, “What happened this time; hunting for mice too close to the willow or get into another tussle with one of the other owls here?”
Wouldn’t be surprised if it were the latter, she thought, trying to figure out the cause of her owls injury, knowing the birds temperament and how it was as fiery as her own. Licking at the dried blood she muttered in-between licks, “Here you go” She watched as the blood slowly dissappeared from its feathers. “Now, let’s see here… ” She muttered, moving his feathers to the side slightly causing the bird to fidget and peck at her paw. “--Ouch! Hold still bird!” She had begun the trying to put the bone back together, flinching her paws away as he hooted irritably causing Vengefulpaw to give her own impatient reaction. Reaching onto the ground she picked up a small mouse, feeding it to the owl and trying again, “Here, keep that in your beak while I fix you up. Right… Now!” Her second try succeeded. Vengefulpaw smiled; quite pleased with the job she had done as the wing began to look better before her eyes, taking out another mouse of the small stack of three mice before feeding it to the baby bird just as the sound of footsteps arrived near the river.

The orange tabby's ears flicked back in forth, the tom deep in thought. the sun's harsh rays beat down on his fiery fur, causing a somewhat uncomfortable heat, plus the pine trees above him were giving little shade from the greenleaf sun. his bright yellow eyes stared at the ground as he padded aimlessly along the river. his brother, flamepaw, had been acting out of sorts lately. after moons of getting the silent treatment from him, flamepaw had randomly decided to talk to him again. considering their past together, shatterpaw thought it was impossible to have a close relationship with his brother anymore. and, flamepaw had vowed to make shatterpaw's life miserable, which made him all the more suspicious about his brother.
his gaze flickered up as he heard a faint swoosh in the air. there was no wind. it must've been a bird or something, the apprentice thought to himself. what am i doing out here anyways? he wondered to himself. oh yeah... hunting, his mentor had sent him out to hunt on his own. yet, he knew he wasn't going to get any hunting done today. shatterpaw heard another swoosh, the sound of bird's wings. the bird must be close. the tom instinctively dropped in a hunting crouch, suddenly determined to at least bring one piece of prey back to his mentor. shatterpaw cautiously padded forward, eyes and ears alert for the bird. right...now! shatterpaw relaxed from his hunting crouch, easily recognizing his clanmates' voice. sounded like she had caught the bird. the tom emerged from the bushes, but was not really prepared for what he saw. vengefulpaw hadn't caught the bird.... she was... feeding it? "uhm.... what?" was all he could think of to say.

The she-cat stared at the little owl and purred as it seemed happier than before. For some odd reason she felt a tinge of jealousy. That he could fly everywhere while she was stuck on the ground in a clan not able to roam everywhere. But who wouldn't want that...right? Not that I'm not proud to be a clan cat doesn't mean it doesn't hurt to dream...right Starclan? She thought curiously with innocence. The white and black tipped she-cat rounded around as she heard another cat coming. Deciding to ignore it because it was of course only the sound of apprentice paws not some warriors she kept her bright yellow eyes on the bird only to hear a voice that was right next to her, uhm.... what? Vengefulpaw turned to see the bright flaming orange tom named Shatterpaw. What a sad dull name for that lively tom.
No she didn't feel horrible when Cloudpaw died, even though it was depressing to see her body and loose another clanmate. Her and her sister Twistedpaw silently cheered. The white she-cat yes...seemed flawless on the outside but no. She was flawed in many ways with her personality. But she felt as if the two toms felt strongly for her. No it wasn't jealousy that ran through her vains, it was just concern. She didn't know how far the tom would go with their depression. Knowing she took sometime to answer she turned towards him finally and shook her head, " Nothing to worry about, Shatterpaw. Just helping a baby owl. How are you doing lately?" She asked with all calm and no worry on her face once so ever.

he nodded at her explanation, but didn't really think she needed one. he was the one being rude, barging in when she obviously was busy. however, he couldn't help but enjoy her company. he had been alone far too long. it was time to get up and do something useful, like worrying about flamepaw's suspicious behavior. or... hunting. he padded closer, feeling lighter and happier as he closed the distance between him and vengefulpaw. his yellow orbs flickered to the little owl, tilting his head slightly in curiosity. "is he okay?" he murmured, then realized she had asked him a question. how are you doing lately? shatterpaw paused, unsure of how to answer. he honestly didn't know how he was doing lately. it felt as if all his emotions were jumbled up into one confusing mess. "i'm... fine," he said, the lie coming out more smoothly than he expected. he didn't want to bother the she-cat with his troubles.

The she-cat nodded. "Same here. That's good."
