Rainpaw smiled and stayed on his back, looking up into Crystalpaw's beautiful blueish green eyes. He realized with a start that the other apprentices were right, they were gorgeous... She was gorgeous. Stop being an idiot! She's a player! He told himself, then shook the thoughts away as he realized Crystalpaw was talking to him. "Oh, in the night mostly... Sleeping in a cramped up apprentice den isn't my favorite thing." He explained, wondering if it was weird for an apprentice to sleep outside of the apprentice den.

Crystalpaw twitched her ears slightly. She had never realized that he left the den in the middle of the night. How odd. She only went to the sunningrocks during the day because it was good for sunbathing. Hence, "sunningrocks". She smiled still, but was curious. "But they're sunningrocks silly. What's the point in coming to them when it's dark? They're not hot then." She explained, and cocked her head slightly to the side. The shecat looked down on him, and noticed him looking at her eyes. Not surprise there. She knew he was thinking about how gorgeous they were, and liked the silent attention. She stared at his eyes in return, noticing that they were a light blue. She liked that color especially on toms.

Rainpaw laughed, understanding how odd it must sound to come to sunning rocks at night time... Where there was no sun. "Well, it's kind of silly actually... This was the last place I saw my father before he magically dissapeared, so I just feel comforted here." He explained, a twinge of depression forking through his heart at the memory of Hawkfeather, the noble warrior and also, Rainpaw's father.

Crystalpaw widened her eyes slightly, regretting bringing the subject up. "Oh." Was all she said, and looked around awkwardly, hoping the subject would change. She didn't like talking about that kind of stuff, it made her too depressed. And she didn't like being sad, because that made her less confident than she usually was, which was unacceptable. But, she knew how losing a parent was. She lost both of hers when she was really young, so she couldn't remember what they were like, but the hurt was still there as if she could remember the day.
But I can't. She then thought about Wonderedpaw, and how he coped with it. She didn't know. Probably because she never asked. "Heh, yeah, losing a family member is some harsh stuff..." She mumbled off, still looking away. Now, this is real awkward.

Rainpaw shrugged. "Yea, well, that's life." He sat up, pushing her shoulder with a white paw. "Want to hunt? I'm getting a bit hungry." He mewed. This was true, but also he wanted to change the subject. He knew Hawkfeather wasn't coming back, so what was the point in getting all worked up over him?

She settled her eyes, no longer widened anymore. She was glad he changed the subject, because she wasn't good with awkward situations such as those. They only make me... act weird. "Uh, yeah, sure." She said awkwardly, and jumped off the sunningrocks. She looked back at him and smiled, hoping he would follow.

Rainpaw returned the smile and jumped off the rock, following Crystalpaw as he came to her side and walked towards the river to get some fish. A nice trout sounds perfect right about now. He thought to himself and perched himself on the river bank, waiting to see a flash of silver, symboling a fish. When he saw one, his paw darted into the water, sending a fish flying onto the bank. He jumped onto the fish and bit it, killing it instantly. When he stepped off he realized it was a decent sized trout. Perfect. He thought and glanced at Crystalpaw. "Um.. Do you want to share?" Rainpaw asked, not sure if she was too honorable to share a fish with him or not.

Crystalpaw watched him catch the fish, smiling the whole time. She could never hunt that well, especially with fish. "Wow, Rainpaw. You're really good at that." She giggled, and tried looking for one herself. She was about to catch a small fish, not being able to tell what kind it was when Rainpaw asked to share is. She looked at him with wide eyes, then at the fish. It was huge! Her smile got bigger, and she purred. "Duh!" She mewed, and took the first bite. "How'd you learn to catch fish so well? I can only catch a small one if I'm lucky." She said, regretting not practicing more.

Rainpaw didn't take the praise very easily, he wasn't used to getting praised. Though he did happen to know a good hunter always won over the ladies, for while he was hunting his muscles always rippled under his grey tabby coat. "Well... I learned by just practicing. I like to hunt, so it wasn't really a big deal." He explained softly, taking a bite out of the fish. It was still warm, and had just the right texture, not too chewy and not too hard. The apprentice felt proud of himself and wished his mentor could see it.

The apprentice cocked her head to the side curiously. Why is he acting weird? Somehow the aura around them had changed from fun, to awkward, now to just, well she really didn't know. Crystalpaw smiled at him and swatted him with her tail playfully. "The mood is starting to go all serious, and it's making me feel weird. So, entertain me." She said, in a teasing tone once again. She gave him the puppy dog look, well in this case the "big eyed kitten" look, since they weren't dogs. She hoped they weren't, anyway. She took one more bite of the fish, and then sat back full, and awaited what he would do, like she was waiting for a huge show to start. She smiled at him. Crystalpaw didn't care what he did, as long as the awkwardness disappeared completely.
