Kovu glanced around, this was obviously some clan's territory. The scent markings were everywhere. He blinked and looked around, stepping into a bush to hide, just waiting for the she-cat he'd been told to find. All he had was a description of her though. He went over it in his head. Maplefur, a grey and white she-cat. Kobi had been crushing on too many other she-cats to even remember her eye color. What a mouse brain. The cream and brown colored tom at down, hoping Maplefur would walk by. |

The slim silhouette of the she-cat weaved through the trees, body close to the ground, legs running at a blinding pace. She jumped over a fallen log in a graceful manner, landing to the ground with a soft thud. Her bright blue eyes zeroed in on the mouse she was chasing, and she knew it would be too easy. She should've been born WindClan, with her long legs and speed. However, she wasn't even born in the Clans. The ThunderClan warrior pounced, claws outstretched and eyes narrowed with concentration. She landed on the mouse and killed it with a swift bite to the neck.
Maplefur lifted her head up and purred in victory. Another meal for the elders, she thought with satisfaction. The grey and white she-cat buried her catch and sniffed the air in hopes of smelling more prey. What she did smell, was an unfamiliar scent. The she-cat lowered her body to the ground cautiously, eyes narrowed to slits. She tasted the air once more, and was sure of the scent. Loner, or rouge. An immediate thought flashed through her head. My son?! No, of course not. Maplefur pushed it out of her mind, it would never be her son. She would never see him again, no matter how many times she dreamed of it. However, something was there. Something not from the Clans. Maplefur opened her mouth to speak, her voice coming out leveled and controlled. "Who's there?" she called out.

Kovu's eyes widened. That must be Maplefur! Great Starclan, she's gorgeous! Kobi wants me to make her suffer on the way back to the twoleg place... How can I do that to her? Kovu wondered and shook the thought away, stepping out of the bush and dipping his cream, almost white head. "Hello, Maplefur." He mewed, mysteriously knowing her name, even though to Kovu it was embedded in his brain as the title of the she-cat Kobi wanted to kill.
His green eyes sparkled oddly, "Before you ask, I know who you are because... I know your son." He mewed, lying. Well, it wasn't a lie. Kovu did know Maplefur's son, but that wasn't what he was supposed to tell her. |

Maplefur stood up when the cat emerged, hoping it was one of her Clanmates. When she peered at him closer, she stepped back, wary. She didn't know this cat, but... wow, was he handsome. Maplefur scolded herself silently for thinking such foolish thoughts. She placed a scowl on her face, hoping to look menacing... or something of that sort. Hello, Maplefur. Maplefur's eyes widened. How does he know my name? She wondered to herself, confusion and fear spreading through her like a rapid current. Maplefur opened her mouth to say something, but the cat spoke again. This time, shocking her more than before.
She noticed the sparkle in his eyes and took another step back, cautious of this stranger. He couldn't be here any longer, for Maplefur's Clanmates would find him here and chase him out. If she yowled, they would come sooner. However, something pulled Maplefur to stay put and keep her mouth shut, to not alert her Clanmates. She didn't know why, but this cat knew her name and she didn't know him. She wanted to know what in the world was going on. I know your son. Maplefur froze, every part of her locked in place. Her mind immediately rambled into a train of thoughts. He knows my son! My son's alive! Oh, how I miss him so dearly. I want to see him, I need to see him! But... who is this guy? Maplefur paused her thoughts and shook her head slowly. She drew in a sharp breath and dared herself to look into the cat's eyes. "H-How? You're not.... you're not....," Maplefur couldn't say his name. The tom who had caused her whole life to fall apart. "him," she said in a soft tone.

Kovu shook his head. "No, I'm not, the name is Kovu. But I know where he is. He has your son... I've come to help you find him, your son sent me to find you himself." He lied smoothly, but found it hard to lie to such a pretty little she-cat. His eyes took on a soft, friendly look as he noticed her blue eyes staring into his own eyes.
"It's ok, you can trust me. Your son gave me this... He said you'd know what it is." Kovu set down a small piece of cloth that was teal in color. Attached to it, from shedding, were small hairs that belonged to none other than Mapleur's son. The cloth was clearly some old twoleg thing that had been found somewhere. The importance of it to Kovu wasn't a mystery, because he'd been stuck with Maplefur's son while he was on guard duty and had heard the long, sappy story of his life. |

Maplefur studied the tom while he was talking, assessing him. He didn't seem violent, but he knew... Kobi. He had to have something up his sleeve. Your son sent me to find you, Maplefur's eyes widened, almost doubled their size, at his words. My son really is alive, thank StarClan. Just in a blink of an eye, all of her suspicions regarding this Kovu character were demolished. He had to be good, her son sent him! Control yourself, Maple, she warned herself. Maplefur regained a calm composure, which was so hard at the moment- she felt like she was going to jump out of her fur in excitement and hope. He said you'd know what it is, the tom said. Maplefur's brow furrowed in confusion as she leaned forward to peer at the object. It was a teal cloth, with hair on it. The ThunderClanner's face broke out in a smile.
She absolutely knew this cloth. It was Maplefur's cloth, the one that had been given to her son. Not by Maplefur, but by Kobi. Maplefur had passed out as soon as her two sons were born, one stillborn, the other alive. She figured Kobi must have stolen her cloth and given it to her son. Why he did, was a mystery to her. Maybe so her son would know that he had a mother, not some random she-cat Kobi had hooked up with. Maplefur's heart tingled with joy and she reached out a paw to bring the cloth closer, drinking in the scent. Of course, she didn't recognize it, but it seemed so familiar and sweet. It was her son's smell. Maplefur looked up at Kovu with such happiness written on her face. "Please, take me to him," she mewed.

Kovu watched the beautiful she-cat's reaction, and felt himself wanting to smile when she smiled. Ugh, get yourself together you furball! The loner told himself, standing straight with his brown ringed tail flicking slowly side to side in a casual manner. She fell for it... Kovu was much a friend of Maplefur's son, but was threatened to be killed by Kobi if he didn't get Maplefur and bring her to Kobi.
He had to stop himself from shuddering at the memory, then realized Maplefur was talking. "Ok then, the journey is about a day from here... So we'll have to rest along the way." The tom mewed, walking towards the way he'd came, knotted muscles rippling under his pelt every time he took a step. |

Maplefur nodded at his next words, a little hesitant. She was never the type to jump straight into things. She always considered what she was doing, but now she didn't know what to do. Going with Kovu could be a huge mistake, but the fact that he knew her son was enough to make her want to go. Plus, she felt an odd sensation that she could trust this tom. Maplefur flicked her ears back against her head, contemplating her situation. Kovu was attractive, handsome even, and he didn't seem bad at all. He seemed to be kind and gentle.
Maplefur let out a soft sigh, her thoughts torn. I have to at least try. I'll never get another chance to see my son, she thought, and that concluded it. She was going with Kovu. "Okay," she said, her voice soft. She watched him stand and begin to pad away. The she-cat followed him, and couldn't help but admire the way his muscles rippled at each step. Maplefur suddenly felt conscious of herself. She wasn't the prettiest cat in ThunderClan. The only time she was ever called pretty was by her parents, which didn't count- they had to say it, and Kovu- who she couldn't even trust anymore, but somehow she was still attracted to him.
You're screwed up, she thought and couldn't disagree.

Kovu began the long long journey back towards twoleg place with a swift bounce in his step. The sun was already setting, turning the trees and his own pelt a light purple color. His blue eyes sparkled slightly as he admired the beautiful sun set. The tom couldn't help glancing back a few times to check that Maplefur was still following him. Even though she'd agreed to come, he felt uneasiness in her tone. But hey, what can I do? I have to get her there one way or another, or I'm dead. Kobi would eat me for a snack!
Soon Kovu's paws began to ache and the sun dropped below the horizon, sending the chill of night over the forest. He glanced around for a place to sleep, managing to find some thick, tall ferns on the edge of the forest. The white and brown tom sat down in them, able to see distant twoleg dens from where he was positioned. He glanced at Maplefur, "Is this alright with you gorgeous?" He asked with a cunning smirk. |

Maplefur was too busy admiring Kovu's muscles to notice that he was far ahead of her. With an embarrassed shake of her fur, the she-cat bounded to catch up and then matched his long stride with hers. Her bright blue orbs turned to the sky, a beautiful array of pink and yellow as the sun set. She noticed Kovu glancing back at her and she had to turn away each time to avoid staring at him. She even had to stare at her paws, make sure she didn't trip over them. She felt so clumsy all of the sudden, which was somewhat unusual for her. Sure, she had tripped a couple times in camp - and was awarded a nice round of laughter from her more rude Clanmates - but, she never felt so weird at the moment, with Kovu. I didn't even feel like this when with Kobi, she thought to herself.
After what felt like forever, the weariness was starting to show. Maplefur dragged behind Kovu, her paws and limbs aching for a rest, but knowing that had a while to go. How does he manage? she wondered silently as she looked at her companion. She was now shivering every once and a while, the cold breeze making her uncomfortable. She pined for her warm nest back at camp, with her Clanmates surrounding her. They'd be worried now, Maplefur had been gone for a while. Like they actually noticed, she said to herself. She let out a sigh, a yawn escaping her lips. Maplefur looked up to see Kovu sitting. She sat beside him, several mouse-lengths away to avoid an awkward moment. She settled down in the ferns, still away from Kovu, and placed her head on her worn-out paws. Her head shot up at his comment and her fur grew hot. She glanced at Kovu, then away, then back to him. "Uh, yes, this is fine," she said in a murmur, and turned away from him, blinking rapidly. She curled up into a small ball, trying to warm herself up from the cold.
