Kovu sighed. Well, here it comes. The truth, and then the lies. He started in, putting his tail under her chin and raising it so the she was looking at him. "Well, I met Kobi when I was with your son. We were exploring. The two of us were good friends, back when Kobi seemed... Nice." He shuddered at the thought. I was stupid to ever think he was nice! "Then, all of a sudden, Kobi was there. He attacked us, and well, we were only about 10 moons. What chance did we have? Kobi brought us back to his 'lair', or should I say twoleg den. He trapped us there, but I escaped." And the lieing begins... It's so hard to lie to her pretty little face. "I came to find you right away, you know, because your son had told me about you and where you lived. And here we are." He concluded his story with a long sigh. |

Maplefur noticed his shudder and could definitely relate. Back when Kobi was the sweetest, kindest, most caring tom she ever met. Under all the regret for loving me, she still thought he could become that Kobi. Not that Kobi he was now, trapped between his anger. He could change, right? The she-cat listened to Kovu's story with wide eyes. She never thought Kobi would actually capture cats. What is wrong with him? He's just confused, that's all, Maplefur thought to herself.
And here we are. Maplefur heard him sigh and desperately wanted to comfort him. She hated seeing any cat in pain and Kovu was no exception. She stared at him for a while, absorbing his story and processing it. She opened her mouth, but it took her a while to speak. "I can't wait 'till morning. I want to go now, I have to see my son," she said, her voice quavering. She was on the brink of tears, again. "I don't even know his name," she added, her head hung low and her gaze fixed on her pure white paws. Her body ached with weariness, but her determination to reunite with her son was too much to wait. Her blue orbs traveled to Kovu's face to see his reaction.

Kovu was slightly shocked when Maplefur confesed she didn't know her own son's name. Well, she has an excuse. That's for sure. He gulped down. I'm not sure I can do this anymore, I can't break her heart again. But I don't have a choice, unless I want to die! The tom looked into Maplefur's eyes to see tears starting to well up in their deep blue pits. He touched his nose to her cheek briefly and mewed, "Please, don't cry. If you want, we can leave now. But it's all the way on the other edge of twoleg place... So it may take a while to get there." Kovu mewed, his tone soft. |

She leaned into his touch, grateful she didn't have to suffer through this emotional craze all by herself. "I don't care if it takes years, I'm going now," she said boldly and stood up, her legs a bit wobbly. She drew in a deep breath, relaxed a little more, and turned to Kovu with a fake smile plastered on her face. She seemed to fake smile all her life and that thought just depressed her. Maplefur turned away from Kovu to swallow nervously. "I'm ready," she announced, shaking the dirt out of her fur. She turned to Kovu and raised her eyebrows, waiting for him to take the lead.

Kovu nodded, admiring the she-cat's determination. He stood up and shook his pelt free of dirt and pieces of grass, then started gradually heading towards the twoleg place. His strides were longer than most cats, and every step displayed his knotted muscles. The white and black tom glanced over his shoulder, "His name is Raven, by the way." Kovu mewed softly, continueing on.
Eventually he made it to the first twoleg den and glanced around, jumping onto the top of the fence when he had checked that it was safe to do so. He didn't feel nervous at all, heck, he'd always been around twolegs and their craziness. |

Maplefur followed him, staying close behind. She had no clue where she was and it was night, plus she always had a fear of the dark, strange enough that was. Maplefur had to pick up her pace to keep up with him and his darn long legs. She admired the way his muscles showed with every step. Her blue gaze flashed to the side, suddenly aware of what she was doing. She didn't want to fall for Kovu, she barely knew him, but she couldn't help it. It was a fault of hers. She left her family for Kobi after only knowing him for three moons, and now she was taking a liking to Kovu without knowing him for a day!
His name is Raven, by the way. Maplefur's heart skipped a beat, warmth and love flooding through her. Raven, she repeated in her head, liking the way it sounded. A small smile crept onto her lips as she wondered what Raven looked like, what he talked like, smelled like, acted like. And now I'm finally going to meet him, she thought happily. When Kovu stopped, Maplefur halted, almost running into the tom. She watched him jump onto the fence, and Maplefur glanced all around nervously. She hated Twolegs. The she-cat warily crept up to the fence and bunched her muscles together, leaping onto the fence with a graceful jump. Her gaze flew to Kovu, waiting for his next move.

Kovu's muscles tensed as something rustled in the bushes. He looked around to see what it was, the darkness of the night making him unable to see things as well as he normally could. Before he realized it, a big black dog was lunging at the fence. Its jaws snapped near Maplefur's face, getting closer with every jump. Kovu let out a battle cry and launched onto the dog's head, his claws raking across the dog's face. He attempted to mew to Maplefur, but with the dog slinging him around it was hard. He managed to spit out one word. "Run!"
And then suddenly, Kovu was on the ground, pinned by one of the dog's huge paws. Kovu bit down on the dog's paw, and clawed at its belly, but the dog still didn't move. |

Maplefur hadn't noticed the rustling of the bushes; she was way too occupied with her rambling thoughts of Raven since she learned his name. She did, however, see Kovu turn tense and glance around. The she-cat snapped out of her thoughts, peering at him curiously. She opened her mouth to ask what was wrong, but suddenly a noise distracted her. The thudding of large paws. She whipped her head around to face a dog's sharp teeth inches away from her. Maplefur yowled in surprise, scrambling backwards. She almost toppled off the fence, but dug her claws into the wood to stay upright.
As she steadied herself, she saw Kovu leap from the fence and onto the dog. She stared at him wide-eyed until he yowled at her. Run! Maplefur instantly shook her head. She lived in ThunderClan and had encountered these annoying creatures before. Not ones these vicious, but whatever. She had some fighting in here. The warrior jumped down from the fence, landing with a soft thud. She ran towards Kovu and the dog, staring at her companion's eyes. "I'm not leaving you!" she yelled back, thundering towards the dog. She jumped onto its back, digging her claws into its flesh and sinking her teeth into one of its ear.

The big, black dog reared up on its hind paws in an attempt to get Maplefur off his back. The dog shook his pelt fiercely and bounced around, desperately wanting to get the she-cat off his back. Finally he turned his head and picked up Maplefur, throwing her towards a large tree.
While the dog was busy panicing, Kovu was able to get out of the dog's grasp and leap onto the dog's neck. He bit down hard, feeling his teeth sink through the flesh. The tom was suspended in mid air, only hanging onto the dog's neck. However, with that the dog had had enough. It twisted its neck and knocked Kovu off, then charged towards the twoleg den and into a small flap known as a doggy door.
Kovu stood up, shaking his pelt. He glanced around looking for Maplefur. When he spotted her he raced over, blue eyes filled with complete horror. He went over and nosed her shoulder. "Please, please tell me you're ok!" The white and black tom begged. |

Maplefur dug her claws harder in an attempt to not get thrown off. Her plain failed and soon she was crashing into a tree. She heard a crack, not sure whether it was a branch of some part of her body. Then flaming pain. Uh, yeah, it was some part of her body. She sunk to the ground, her grey and white flank rising and falling heavily. Her right paw felt like it was on fire. Maplefur took ragged breaths, tempting to reduce the pain. I hope Kovu's alright, she thought to herself, desperately hoping the tom hadn't gotten hurt.
She heard his voice and inwardly breathed a sign of relief. Her bright blue eyes fluttered open and she looked up at him. "I'm... fine," she muttered, slowly sitting up, but raising her paw above the ground to avoid anymore pain. It hurt like hell and Maplefur grimaced. "Uh, not really. My paw got twisted the wrong way, but it's fine. I'll live," she whispered, not making eye contact with Kovu.
